"After ShaveTalc"

oil 8"x8"

I have had this old Colgate talc sitting around forever, so why not paint it, right?
On the back it says "Colgate's Talc eliminates that objectionable ""powdered"" look" Well, we wouldn't want that. But, isn't talc a powder.

Enjoy!

"Playing in the Dirt"

6x6 in., oil on gessoboard

Who doesn't like playing in the dirt? Ever since I was a kid, I've liked to play in the dirt. Now that I'm older I'd just like to play using one of these babies.

"Toby"

"Toby" 14" x 14" oil - sold

I just finished this commissioned piece. At first I really struggled. But, then I sat back regrouped and pressed on. My wife hates it when I run into road blocks. I really learned a lot during this painting and in the end I think it turned out well. I played around with a split complimentary color scheme and worked on just the "feeling" of the paint as I applied it. That might sound strange, but the consistency of the paint and how much medium to use makes a big difference.

I finished this over the weekend and sadly I had to put down our 16 year old lab, Twix. So, I think this is a fitting salute to her.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.

"7up"

I've had this old 7up bottle sitting around my studio for along time. So, I thought I would finally set up a still life and paint it. Simple as that.

"53 Chevy Truck"

oil 8"x8"

I was planning on painting a series of old Chevy trucks in a much larger size. I thought I would paint this first to see if I liked it and it was going to be a good idea. Well, I decided I think I will, I really enjoyed painting this.

"Heavy Traffic"

8x10 oil
This is a Plein Air piece I did just outside a small town in Wisconsin. Traffic never gets real heavy in these small towns, but I love how people complain about it anyway.

"Cana Island Lighthouse"

Ahhhh, Door County, I love it up there! Yes, Last week I went up to Door County, Wisconsin to the annual Plein Air Festival. I rubbed shoulders with a lot of wonderful artists from around the country (well, at least met some). Such as, Gay Faulkenberry, Stacey Peterson, Brad Teare, and of course, my good friend Doug Braithwaite. I also, got totally inspired by watching many others paint. They make it look so easy. Doug and I hung out, cooked steaks at his trailer, laughed, got serious talking about "religion", lightened up, talked about art. It was a great time!

The first day I went over to Cana Island Lighthouse. When I got there, no one was around. I had the whole place to myself. I set up and started painting.

After awhile people started showing up and a nice couple, Jon and Patti Anderson. They both came over and watched me paint and we chatted. They said the guy in the lighthouse mentioned I was over painting "where all the snakes are, ...fox and garter snacks ...big ones"! Well, to say the least, it was a little hard to concentrate after hearing that. I hate snakes! But, I managed to paint this!

The great part is, later that day I received an email from Jon and Patti saying they wanted to purchase the painting. I love it when that happens. Thanks Jon and Patti!!

I had a great few days!! Here are a few more pics.

"Irrigation Ditch"

I wasn't sure if I wanted to post this painting. I'm just not sure what I think about it. I have been playing around with different surfaces to paint on and broader brush strokes. I landed on gessoed canvas mounted on MDF board. I like surface as it doesn't take the other paint strokes off when painting wet on wet. I'm so fickle about my paintings.

This is a commission I did for great friends of mine. They are soon moving to Mesquite, Nevada and wanted a memory of their time in Wisconsin. I will miss them.

"Pineview Poplar"

Oil - 8"x 10"

This is a scene from Huntsville, Utah. I'm standing on the beach at Pineview reservour. It was a beautiful sunny spring day. There was a little snow lingering in the mountains. This grouping of poplar trees caught my eye.
